Our Story

Lemon slices and a glass of lemonade with a straw
Black and white photos of a grocery store with a man and a young boy shopping. The man is browsing shelves with canned goods, and the boy is looking at vending machines.

After immigrating to the U.S. in 1963, my grandad, Vince Kelly, opened the original Kelly’s Market in Culver City, CA. The store was part of the community – offering groceries and a deli to local residents as well to the actors and crews from nearby Desilu Studios.

After 25 years in the food industry, I decided to follow in my grandad’s footsteps some 55 years later and 2,000 miles away with the opening of Kelly’s Market (phase 2)! As residents of Decatur’s Old Depot District, we wanted to create that same experience. We wanted to emulate that neighborhood feel of the 60’s corner grocery, while putting a modern and inviting spin on it. We are your neighborhood spot for groceries, gatherings, and good times.

We hope you’ll come in and see everything that we have to offer from everyday essentials to specialty foods. Try one of our delicious sandwiches and pick up a beautiful bouquet of fresh flowers on your way home. Or, just hang out and enjoy a craft beer or wine by the glass. We have plenty of free parking behind the store and the dogs are always welcome!
